Marketing Manager
Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) is seeking an experienced marketing manager to build new channels for growth as part of an integrated, multichannel communications, membership and development strategy. You will develop and implement a comprehensive marketing program, integrating print, web and special events. With an emphasis on the web, you will use advanced tools and strategies, as well as social media and online fundraising savvy, to help the organization reach new audiences and cultivate those relationships, as well as steward existing ones, to increase their value to CLF over time. The position is based in Boston, MA.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement integrated online communications and fundraising strategy in support of the organization’s membership and revenue growth goals;
- Develop and produce innovative email and web-based campaigns to capture new online donors and activists;
- Build effective online outreach and acknowledgment programs to steward existing donor and activist relationships and maximize their value;
- Develop and manage list growth initiatives such as Google grants and cultivate organic list growth;
- Create new partnerships and engage our online community using social media tools;
- Optimize website to support online marketing initiatives;
- Develop strategy to enhance reader/viewership of online content, including link and keyword strategies, and search engine optimization (SEO);
- Track, analyze and report on performance using Google Analytics and other measurement tools;
- Use internal data and industry research to improve program performance and measure success;
- Develop and manage online communications calendar;
- Create and manage online marketing budget;
- Plan and help implement special events in support of CLF’s advocacy;
- Work with communications and development teams to ensure consistent brand and program messaging across all channels.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years online marketing experience, specifically online fundraising, with a demonstrated track record of success;
- Experience with SEO and Google AdWords
- Understanding of role of advocacy in engaging online audiences; familiarity with environmental issues a plus;
- Excellent writer with specific expertise in creating compelling copy that stimulates action;
- Team player able to work with multiple departments and managers to achieve results;
- Self-starter with ability to manage multiple short and long-term projects simultaneously;
- Willingness to travel to state offices within New England.
Technical Skills:
- Experience with Convio and Wordpress preferred;
- Basic HTML and web development experience;

Manager, Annual Fund and Development Services
Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) is seeking an experienced development professional to oversee development services and manage its annual fund. This person will be responsible for the maintenance and implementation of CLF’s fund-raising database, Raiser’s Edge, as well as managing the direct mail portion of CLF’s annual fund.
This position, an integral part of a five-person development team, is responsible for maintaining CLF’s Raiser’s Edge database performance, and will oversee gift processing, upkeep and enhancement of donor information and records, and production of Raiser’s Edge reports for use by Boards and development staff. In addition, this position will work closely with the manager of individual giving and the marketing manager to plan and implement a coordinated annual fund.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain the administration of the Raiser’s Edge database, including:
- Track the donor management process and analyze responses and trends so that timely and responsive Raiser’s Edge reports can be distributed;
- Coordinate audits, Raiser’s Edge upgrades, and integration with Convio (online marketing software) and Financial Edge (accounting software);
- Assess progress in meeting fundraising goals and identify data that can lead to improvements;
- Coordinate all use and users of Raiser’s Edge database, and ensure successful training, upgrading skills of office managers, development staff, and advocates, as required
- Manage relationship with direct mail house to ensure timely and accurate production and mailing of CLF’s quarterly updates and appeals, and working with individual giving manager and online marketing manager to create and implement seamless annual giving program across direct mail, online and other platforms;
- Work with communications and other development staff to plan and coordinate annual fund schedule, including development of appeal copy, appropriate collateral, upgrade techniques and outreach to new and lapsed donors;
- Coordinate the development department’s operations and systems; monitoring information and performing task follow-up and information tracking;
- Create and maintain a development reference and resource library;
- Update CLF’s information in Guidestar, Charity Navigator, Good Search and similar sites, monitoring ratings and reporting changes to management, with recommendations for improvement;
- Supervise development temporary staff and interns.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and how it relates to both Financial Edge (accounting) and Convio (website management) are essential. Incumbent is expected to work closely with finance, IT, and communications staff as well as with other development members;
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience;
- Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge query and report writing, and advanced analytical skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills are expected, including the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, as well as superior organization skills and attention to detail;
- Familiarity with development office operations required; experience with annual giving and its relationship to major gifts, online marketing and/or special events preferred;
- Ability to manage several projects at various stages of completion; good problem solving skills;
- Experience and a high degree of proficiency working with the Microsoft Office suite;

Development Services and Special Events Assistant
Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) is seeking a development services and special events assistant to provide critical support to CLF’s comprehensive individual giving program. Candidates should have some experience in development and/or with providing administrative support in an office setting. This position joins a five-member development team charged with raising over $4 million in the current fiscal year and will report to the vice president for development. This position is based in Boston, MA.
Responsibilities:
- Record individual donor gifts and track acknowledgement of general membership gifts;
- Maintain donor files and update biographical information in the database;
- Coordinate in-house production and mailing of solicitation letters, special event invitations, and other projects;
- Work with manager of development services and annual fund to ensure accurate gift and financial reporting, prepare other donor relations communications as necessary;
- Partner with manager of individual giving to help create, staff and follow up on donor identification, cultivation and stewardship events;
- Conduct donor and prospect research, working with confidential as well as publically available information;
- Update development’s professional memberships in AFP, PGGNE and subscriptions to Chronicle of Philanthropy and other services;
- Provide assistance to the foundation relations manager in administering proper assembly and timely mailing of all foundation proposals, reports and other administrative functions as needed; coordinating grant deliverables with appropriate staff in foundation relations manager’s absence;
- Travel occasionally to attend development events, such as receptions, dinners, and lectures;
- Perform administrative and other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, as well as 2-3 years of development experience and/or demonstrated experience providing administrative support in an office setting;
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Strong written and oral communications skills, attention to details and comfortable with deadlines;
- Comfort using fundraising and communications software (CLF uses Raiser’s Edge and Convio) as well Microsoft Office suite;

Program Assistant
The Conservation Law Foundation (www.clf.org) works to solve the most significant environmental challenges facing New England. CLF’s advocates use law, economics and science to create innovative strategies to conserve natural resources, protect public health and promote healthy and equitable communities in our region. CLF has an opening in its Boston office for a program assistant starting in July/August 2010. Reporting to the office manager, the program assistant is responsible for a wide range of administrative responsibilities for three programs areas focusing on clean air, clean energy, climate change, clean water, transportation and environmental justice. The program assistant will collaborate with advocacy staff from each of these CLF program areas and directly support the Boston office. CLF is seeking a smart, self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment and welcomes the exciting challenges of working for a regional environmental advocacy organization dedicated to the mission of protecting New England’s environment and communities.
Responsibilities of the program assistant include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide administrative support to the Boston program advocacy staff.
- Provide substantive, technical, research and editorial support to program staff for public comments letters, outreach materials, reports and other publications.
- Schedule, coordinate and set up meetings.
- Attend hearings and public meetings on occasion.
- Assist in managing, producing and transmitting documents for litigation and agency review.
- Organize, review, code, and archive materials and files in a way that is consistent with CLF’s document management policy.
- Coordinate expense reports, reimbursements and attorney registration renewals.
- Enter time-keeping entries and update Outlook contacts.
- Assist with managing day-to-day work assignments for advocacy interns.

Experience with, and knowledge of, environmental, environmental justice, and social justice issues and a passion for the mission of CLF. Superior organization skills, good attention to detail and strong administrative abilities are required. Spanish language fluency a plus.
