| The David Cavers, Jr. Law Clerk Program
This program was created to honor the memory of David Cavers, a strong supporter of CLF. David committed time to CLF from 1981 until his death in November of 2000. As a Director, he was integral in leading the organization through many tough battles to the prominence it enjoys today. In particular, David enjoyed working with law students who came to learn and practice environmental advocacy at Conservation Law Foundation (CLF).
CLF, New England 's leading environmental advocacy organization, offers David Cavers Legal Clerkships to second year law students during the summer. CLF has a staff of 15+ attorneys and experts in fields such as marine science and resource economics. Legal clerks will be closely mentored by one of our CLF staff members and have the opportunity to work in a number of our program areas to improve management of natural resources and advance environmental protection and public health throughout New England. In addition to legal research and preparation of materials needed for litigation and other advocacy initiatives, you will also have the opportunity to participate in negotiation, agency and court proceedings, and are encouraged to participate fully in the life of our organization.
Environmental or other relevant experience is preferred and interest in environmental advocacy is essential. People of color and individuals with experience in public health are strongly encouraged to apply. Cavers law clerkships involve 10-12 weeks of full time work, and include a stipend. Four positions are available each summer.
Although CLF only provides funding for summer law clerks through the Cavers program, a limited number of additional legal clerkship positions may be available for exceptional first year law students and other law students not seeking funding.
Acceptance of applications will begin November 1st, 2009 and end on February 1st, 2010. Applicants will be accepted on a rolling basis.
