Susan, the answer is yes... regardless of enrollment status in a differential rate program, you are welcome to enroll in the program. You can choose the level you'd like (in 500kWh-per-month "blocks," as Beth describes), but the cost of Maine Green Power itself won't vary with your time of use or level of use. You're more than welcome to adjust your enrollment level over the months to best match your usage levels, though!

Even if you've signed up with a competitive supplier, you are welcome to layer Maine Green Power on top to ensure that you're supporting Maine renewables right on your bill. http://megreenpower.com is the best place to enroll.

Beth, this is a wonderfully complete primer. Thank you for putting it together.

Susan,
I don't know for sure, but believe that you can combine Maine Green Power with the differential rates -- afterall, they are two different products (one provides electrons, the other provides renewable energy credits to offset the generation of those electrons). You can sign-up for Time-of-Use pricing through CMP (1-800-750-4000 or www.cmpco.com). You can pre-register for ME Green Power through their web site (www.megreenpower.com). Eventually, customers will be able to sign up for Me Green Power through any of the big 3 T&D utilities.

Can the green power alternative be combined with the differential rates, so the customer pays more for daytime electricity and less for electricity at night?
