I'm a sometime gardener, but am deeply concerned about our changing climate, as evidenced around the globe - melting Arctic and Antarctic ice, coral death, loss of the Maldives due to rising water levels, to say the least. And the unpredictable, extreme weather events...
All of us need to worry, get depressed, and then DO something to mitigate, prepare for, deal with the inevitable changes in our lives, due to the changes in the climate.\

That's a good point, Heather. Journals recording our habits and planning for these annual events will become even more important. That's certainly true for my favorite hobby, fly fishing, where we've already seen an unusual year. It also reminds me of one of my favorite books, "Early Spring in Massachusetts", a collection of journal entries by Thoreau organized by date, so as you read it you read through the season. Patterns emerge that were no doubt accurate then, but no longer hold true.

I've planted hardies early (even earlier than usual) but will wait on tomatoes, etc. Well, I may not hold out until Memorial Day, but mid-May at least. Gardening is always a gamble. But the uncertainty is way up this year. I've never been very good about keeping a detailed gardening journal but I think that could be really important in the future.
