January 23 - Fisheries Disaster Money Shows, but Where Should it Flow? - Last week the most unproductive Congress in our Nation’s history managed to squeeze out an omnibus appropriations bill that includes $75 million dollars for fisheries disaster assistance. Disaster relief funding could still help a good number of people. A thoughtful and creative process for using this rare and scarce opportunity is warranted.

January 24 - Fish Talk in the News – Friday, January 24 - In this week’s Fish Talk in the News, NOAA releases its 2012 groundfish report; senators ask the Obama administration to act on seafood fraud; a new yellowtail assessment will incorporate non-traditional information; Maine’s DMR implements new scallop closures; clam diggers and worm diggers clash over access to mud flats; a quarter of the world’s sharks and rays are at risk of extinction; the Center for Sustainable Fisheries heads to Seattle to discuss changes to Magnuson; the Seattle Times says ocean acidification will require federal action.
