<p>July 7: <a href="Franconia Notch highway (first two lane interstate in nation) NH 1970’s Regional move away from coal fired power plants with massive reductions in air pollution (late-1990’s to present) Creation of Renewable Energy Standards that led to development of renewable energy across the region (1997 – 2008) First-in-the-nation regulation of Greenhouse Gas emissions from power plants (NH-MA-CT) 1998 – 2003 Creation and development of nation leading energy efficiency programs (started in MA 1987 – eventually across region to varying degrees throughout region) Control of discharge of heated water from Kendall and Brayton Point power plants (happening now) Boston Transit projects of the 1990’s, some of which are still unfolding (Building of Orange Line, Red Line extension to Alewife, commuter rail restoration) Creation of Rose Kennedy Greenway  Lots of bad stuff that was avoided: Giant malls in South Weymouth and Bourne (2000’s),  Newbay Coal plant in RI (1980’s), Route 895 ripping through Newport RI (1980’s)  And others might want to add: Boston Harbor cleanup Fall River and New Bedford sewage projects" target="_blank">&#8220;The Catch of Climate Change: OA Presents a Threat to Fisheries,&#8221; by Nancy Shrodes</a></p>
