Planned Giving

Pictured: Charles C. Cabot, Jr., longtime champion of the environment and CLF. Charlie’s support of CLF began in October 1970 with a single gift of $10. For the next 33 years, Charlie repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to CLF’s advocacy, serving in a number of volunteer positions, including Chair of the Board of Trustees for over a decade. Thanks to his foresight and commitment to CLF, Charlie provided a permanent foundation for our continued work on behalf of New England’s environment. Through his vision and generosity, he initiated the Campaign for CLF and left a truly remarkable legacy.

The Charles Cabot Society

What better way to show your commitment to New England than ensuring a legacy of support for CLF?

Donors, big or small, who make gifts to CLF in their estate plans play a special role in ensuring that CLF’s voice will continue to be heard. We recognize this visionary commitment by extending to them membership in the Charles Cabot Society, named for the late Charles C. Cabot, Jr., a dedicated and longtime supporter of the environment and Chair of CLF’s Board of Trustees 1991 to 2003.

You may join the Cabot Society by doing one or more of the following:

  • Include CLF in your will or living trust. If you already have a will, or are taking the important first step of creating one, CLF can be added as a beneficiary. Bequests for unrestricted purposes may be expressed as follows:“I give and bequeath to the Conservation Law Foundation, 62 Summer Street, Boston, Massachusetts, the sum of $__________, to be used for its general purposes.”
  • Make a life income gift, such as a charitable gift annuity. CLF offers several plans where, in exchange for your irrevocable gift, you and another person can receive income for your lifetimes.
  • Name CLF as a beneficiary of an insurance policy or retirement plan assets.
  • Establish a charitable lead trust. In this way, you do not need to choose between making a gift to CLF and leaving an inheritance to your loved ones. Instead, you use your capital resources in a way that allows you to provide income to CLF for a number of years before passing them back to yourself or a named beneficiary.

Regardless of your income level, planned giving can be an important part of your financial strategy, and is an easy and effective way to support our programs.
