Ben Carmichael Named Senior Communications Manager, Conservation Law Foundation

BOSTON, MA  December 7, 2011 – Ben Carmichael has been named senior communications manager of Conservation Law Foundation (CLF), it was announced today by Karen Wood, director of communications. Carmichael joins CLF from 2degrees, a British-based sustainable business network, where he was director of creative & editorial.

In his new role, Carmichael will develop the messaging and stories that flow through CLF’s communications, from press releases to blog posts and Twitter updates. He will manage media relations, as well as CLF’s website, blog, social media sites and print publications. He will work with the organization’s program and state directors, as well as CLF Ventures, to develop and implement outreach plans that will help build awareness for CLF’s work in New England and nationwide. Ben will be based in CLF’s Boston office.

In making the announcement, Wood said, “Ben’s got the perfect background to hit the ground running at CLF. His passion for environmental issues and his gifts as a storyteller will serve the organization well as we look to engage a broader audience in our mission to protect New England’s environment for the benefit of all people.”

Carmichael’s background is in communications and the environment. Most recently, he was the director of creative & editorial for 2degrees, a global sustainable business network. Prior to that, he was a communications consultant to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), where he was a ghostwriter, blogger and regulator contributor to On Earth. He has also consulted for such companies as BluSkye and the Sustainable Apparel Coalition. He has published in The Huffington Post and the Yale Forum on Climate Change & the Media, and worked previously for The New Yorker and MPBN.

Carmichael received his BA from Brown University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, and a Masters in Environmental Change and Management from Oxford University, where he studied on a Marshall Scholarship. He is a native of Falmouth, Maine, and an avid fly fisherman, cyclist and skier.
