CLF STATEMENT:
“National Grid’s 15-year contract to buy power from Cape Wind demonstrates their forward-thinking commitment to developing and delivering clean, renewable, locally-generated power to their customers,” said Sue Reid, senior attorney, Conservation Law Foundation. “The contract will ensure price predictability over the long term, helping to get consumers off the fossil fuel price roller coaster, while also bringing the nation’s first offshore wind project to life. When we think about what we are currently paying, and what we are willing to pay for electricity going forward, we need to consider the environmental and public health costs of the dirty power sources on which we currently rely. The modest short-term price increase that we will bear to invest in clean, renewable energy will pay large dividends over time in terms of protecting our planet, our health and our economy.
The Conservation Law Foundation (www.clf.org) works to solve the most significant environmental challenges facing New England. CLF’s advocates use law, economics and science to create innovative strategies to conserve natural resources, protect public health and promote vital communities in our region. Founded, in 1966, CLF is a nonprofit, member-supported organization with offices in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
