Boston, MA (March 27, 2008) – Conservation Law Foundation President Philip Warburg released the following statement in response to today’s transportation reforms announcement by Senate President Murray, Governor Patrick, and House Speaker DiMasi.

On today’s announcement:

“Our state’s roads, bridges and public transportation agencies are facing a serious financial crisis and it will take a commitment from all our elected officials to work together and identify the solutions that will fund the world-class transportation system our state needs to remain competitive. We applaud the Senate President, Governor and House Speaker in moving forward today to identify some of those solutions.”

On the solutions, including the need for new revenue sources:

“We must be clear that there is no single solution to this crisis and that beyond the reforms announced today the state will need to seriously explore and enact new revenue generating opportunities, like an increase in the gas tax or congestion pricing, to maintain and expand a safe and efficient network of public transportation services, highways and bridges.”
