Boston, MA (March 6, 2008) – The Cape Wind clean energy project will reach a key milestone in its ongoing approval process next week when a series of statewide hearings on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement are held on March 10-13. At the same time, an appeal of the Cape Cod Commission’s controversial denial of a transmission wire permit is moving forward.

To explain these and other steps in the regulatory process, the Conservation Law Foundation — New England’s leading environmental group and a long-time advocate of the project — released a media backgrounder on the project.

“Cape Wind deserves to move expeditiously through the permitting process without any further unnecessary obstructions,” said CLF president Philip Warburg. “This 130 turbine proposal is one of our nation’s most promising clean energy projects. Once built, it will immediately deliver emissions-free wind generated power to thousands of Massachusetts residents, marking a major step forward in the region’s efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions and reduce our dependence on dirty fossil-fuels.”
