Brunswick, ME (February 14, 2008) – Governor Baldacci’s Task Force on Wind Power Development today issued its final report calling for an investment of at least 3,000 MW of clean, wind-generated power by 2020. The Conservation Law Foundation, the leading voice in Maine for expanded wind power development to combat global warming, issued the following statement from Maine Advocacy Center Director Sean Mahoney:

“Given the prior mixed message Maine’s regulatory bodies have sent, the Task Force’s report provides a clear blueprint that will allow our state to become a national leader in the development of clean, renewable wind power. The Task Force has helped lay the groundwork for a massive investment in clean, emissions-free energy that will spur jobs and help avert the disastrous impacts climate change could have on our region and economy. CLF looks forward to working with the Baldacci Administration and other proponents of renewable energy to ensure that the Task Force’s recommendations are implemented by the Legislature as soon as possible.”

The Conservation Law Foundation’s Maine Advocacy Center was part of a group of renewable energy supporters that funded an analysis of Maine’s wind resources which provided a basis for the Task Force’s conclusions.
