BOSTON, MA AND PORTLAND, ME October 16, 2012 – Sean Mahoney has been named executive vice president and director of programs for the Conservation Law Foundation (CLF), effective immediately. A resident of Falmouth, Maine, Mahoney joined CLF in 2007 as vice president and director of the Maine office of CLF. In the new position of executive vice president, Mahoney will assume management responsibilities for CLF’s advocacy throughout the New England region, with the goal of maximizing mission advancement while helping CLF achieve its membership and revenue goals.
In making the announcement, CLF President John Kassel said, “Sean’s management experience and style, his perspective on our work across programs and its attractiveness to state-based constituencies, and his enthusiasm for aligning our work to maximize our success add up to the ideal combination of skills, experience and attributes for the job.”
As vice president and director for CLF ME, Mahoney has overseen the implementation of a number of landmark cases. Most recently, he led a legal team to restore native fish to the St. Croix River, devised and implemented the legal strategy to blunt the efforts of the LePage administration in Maine to rollback the environmental safeguards enacted over the last 20 years and innovative efforts to not only require the clean up of urban waterways but also to fund that clean up.
In accepting the position, Mahoney said, “I look forward to working with our staff, volunteers, and members to help CLF continue its work to protect New England’s environment for all. A thriving environment is not only critical to our unique quality of of life here in Maine and New England but critical for thriving communities.”
Mahoney is a graduate of Bowdoin College and the University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to joining CLF, he clerked for the Honorable Fred Parker in Vermont, and practiced environmental law in San Francisco and Portland, ME for 15 years. He has served on a number of boards, including GrowSmart Maine (chair), Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Konbit Sante and the Falmouth Land Trust. Mahoney lives in Falmouth, Maine, with his wife, three children, dog, and too many chickens.
