Wind Power
Wind power is an important part of the solution to the energy and climate challenges we face. It is an emissions-free form of energy that takes advantage of what is arguably nature’s cleanest and most sustainable power source. Tapping into New England’s abundant wind resources is essential to a clean energy future that will provide good local jobs, increase energy security, and ultimately stabilize energy costs, while reducing our region’s dependence on coal and other dirty fossil fuels.
However, all power generation has impacts. A good wind project must be carefully designed and sited to minimize its impacts on the environment and surrounding communities. From backyard turbines to commercial-scale wind farms, we must develop wind energy in a way that balances our need to expedite solutions to combat climate change with the protection of wildlife, water quality, forest health, and other natural resources.
Across the region, CLF is working to enable the development of beneficial wind projects, both offshore and on land. Our work ranges from participating in the environmental review and siting processes on individual projects to influencing the policies that underpin wind power development and will set national precedent. In pursuit of a cleaner energy mix, CLF will continue to advocate for wind power “done right.”
