Bungled Vermont Gas Pipeline – Oral Argument Scheduled

Sandy Levine | @CLFLevine

UPDATE: The location of the hearing on September 7 has now changed to the Pavilion Building Auditorium,109 State Street, Montpelier, Vermont.

The Vermont Public Service Board will hear oral arguments on September 7 at 11AM in Montpelier, Vermont, on Conservation Law Foundation’s petition seeking a new review of this misguided, mismanaged and bungled gas pipeline project. The hearing will be at the Vermont Public Service Board. Here is the hearing notice.

In this case, CLF is asking the Board to require that Vermont Gas Systems seek a new or amended certificate of public good. The many significant cost increases for the project make this pipeline project a bad bet for Vermont. These cost overruns are a changed circumstance that require a new evaluation under Vermont law.

Fundamentally, if the Vermont Public Service Board knew in 2013 what it knows now, it never would have approved this ill-fated project. The Board should take another look and not saddle Vermonters with the high cost and pollution from this fracked gas pipeline.
