After a month-long hiatus, the Invenergy Final Hearing has resumed. At stake is whether Rhode Island’s Energy Facility Siting Board will grant Invenergy a permit to pave over a forest in Burrillville to build a new fracked gas and diesel oil power plant.

It’s hardly news that temperatures in New England drop below freezing in winter. But as CLF has long argued, we have plenty of fuel to get through even the coldest winters unscathed, without footing the bill for a polluting new pipeline. And on top of that, if we want to avoid the most devastating effects of climate change, we must stop using dirty fuels like gas altogether.

The ISO’s Forward Capacity Auction 13, conducted on Monday, February 4, 2019, showed once again – strongly and unequivocally – that the proposed Invenergy fracked gas and diesel oil power plant is not needed.

Central Maine Power’s Clean Energy Connect project will build a 145-mile transmission line through Maine to connect more than 1,000 megawatts of Canadian hydropower to New England’s electrical grid. By bringing more clean energy to the region, the project will reduce our reliance on dangerous, expensive fracked gas and significantly cut climate-damaging emissions. CLF, working… Continue reading Clean Energy Connect Project Will Benefit Mainers While Cutting Carbon Pollution

Late last week, temperatures across New England plunged into the single digits for almost three days straight. Through the entire cold snap, our energy prices were at record lows, we didn’t resort to burning oil, and there was no hint of the “rolling blackouts” threatened by the fearmongering gas pipeline lobby. What a difference a… Continue reading Frigid Temperatures? Not a Problem in New England

CLF responds to a Boston Globe editorial calling for more gas pipelines at a time when emissions are rising and the negative effects of gas are abundantly clear.

The Big Gas industry talks about fracked gas as a “clean” alternative to polluting fossil fuels like coal or oil. But how much do we really know about it as a fuel source? Test your knowledge with this 2-minute quiz.

“This report speaks loud and clear—fracked gas is increasing our carbon emissions and harming our environment,” said Greg Cunningham, VP and Director of CLF’s Clean Energy and Climate Change program. “Coal’s sharp-dressed cousin is continuing us on a path to irreparable and costly climate damage. It is imperative that we shift our clean energy transition into high gear and accelerate our clean car standards to reverse this trend.”
