Decision costs Maine hundreds of jobs in clean energy industry

April 29, 2016 (PORTLAND, ME) – Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) released the following statement today in response to a failed attempt by the Maine Legislature to override Governor LePage’s veto of the landmark solar energy bill passed by the Legislature last week.

“The failure to override this shortsighted and ill-informed veto is a slap in the face to hardworking men and women across Maine,” said Sean Mahoney, Director of CLF’s Maine Advocacy Center. “A burgeoning new industry will have to cut hundreds of jobs, our reliance on fossil fuels will continue to send billions out of state, electric customers will be forced to fund enormous and unnecessary transmission projects, and Maine will remain the energy laggard of the region. As we have seen time and time again, snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory is an unfortunate hallmark of the LePage administration.”

Sean Mahoney is available for further comment.
