New England Industrial Electrification

In a recent report, Synapse Energy Economics finds that almost half of the most heavily polluting industrial facilities in New England are in or near communities that already deal with heightened pollution.

It’s a common misconception that it’s too difficult or even impossible to upgrade industrial facilities to electricity – even though they’re a major source of carbon emissions in the region. But that’s not true. Synapse finds that it is possible for these facilities to replace polluting fuels with electricity.

No one wants their loved ones living next to a facility that damages their health, whether through dirty air or planet-warming emissions. By improving the way industrial facilities power their operations, we can reduce pollution that harms our health and overheats the planet.

You can also learn more by reading a shorter version of the report or navigating a visual map of where the facilities are and how they impact those neighborhoods.
