The Healthy Retail & Commerce Fund (HRCF) supports small businesses that can help build healthier communities by providing financing for health-promoting businesses in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods throughout New England. This case study provides an overview of the featured partner, Stop and Compare, and the impact they expect to see on community, health, and the environment. Stop and Compare is a Latinx, family-owned-and-operated supermarket business that offers high-quality and diverse foods at affordable prices and provides a strong cultural connection for Latinx customers. The $1.2 million loan helped Stop and Compare open a new flagship store in Lynn, Massachusetts, creating new jobs with benefits including healthcare coverage and financial literacy training, with up to 25% of revenue coming from SNAP customers and sourcing products from more than 50 local vendors.
