Protecting the Charles River from Stormwater Pollution

“A stew of pollutants is flowing into the Charles every time it rains, threatening decades of efforts to clean up this iconic river,” said Caitlin Peale Sloan, Senior Attorney at CLF. “Stormwater pollution can lead to dangerous cyanobacteria outbreaks, which sicken people and wildlife and have no place in our river. The Charles belongs to everyone, and it’s time we stop giving a free pass to the polluters who are destroying this precious resource.”

EPA Proposes Changes to Waters of the United States (WOTUS) Rule

“The EPA’s proposed definition is a hasty and ill-conceived effort to revoke longstanding, critical protections of the nation’s waterways under the Clean Water Act,” said Heather Govern, Director of CLF’s Clean Air and Water program. “Not only does the proposed rule strip waters of protection for the benefit of a few sectors of industry, but it does so without a basis in law and ignores good environmental policy.”

EPA Plan to Address PFAS in Drinking Water Falls Far Short

“Millions of Americans are drinking water laced with one or more of these PFAS chemical compounds at dangerous levels, and EPA’s response is to announce continued dithering while communities are at risk,” said Brad Campbell, President of CLF.

Proposed Emissions Rules Toxic to Public Health and Environment

“The Trump administration is endangering the health of the American people,” said Greg Cunningham, Vice President and Director of CLF’s Clean Energy and Climate Change program. “This rollback will hand a lifeline to old, polluting power plants that still haunt our communities, spreading respiratory and other illnesses among our children and families. The EPA replacement plan violates the Clean Air Act and totally disregards good science and sound economic principles.”

Protecting Our Kids from Lead in Drinking Water

Schools and childcare centers – places where children spend so much time – can have unsafe levels of lead in their water, putting our kids’ health at risk. To ensure safe water, it’s time for parents and teachers to demand that schools test their water for lead and take measures necessary to protect the health of schoolchildren.

EPA Rolls Back Clean Car Standards

“The EPA and NHTSA are prioritizing fossil fuel interests over the health of our communities,” said CLF Staff Attorney Emily K. Green. “Strong vehicle emissions standards are critical to addressing climate change, and weakening them will put the health of millions of Americans at risk. This decision disproportionately harms the most vulnerable among us, while forcing families and businesses to pay more at the pump. We will continue to fight this rollback with every tool available.”

Clean car standards are good for our health, good for the environment, and good for our wallets.
