Massachusetts Regulators Turn to New Project to Deliver Clean Energy

Eversource’s controversial Northern Pass transmission line is inching closer to its apparent demise after the New Hampshire Site Evaluation Committee voted during public deliberations last month to deny it a permit to build. Now, a new project, New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC), has emerged as its likely successor to win a lucrative contract to… Continue reading Massachusetts Regulators Turn to New Project to Deliver Clean Energy

Maine Solar Bill Moves Forward in the House

“The House should be commended for representing the interests of Mainers who deserve a clean energy future,” said CLF attorney Emily Green. “Now our leaders must show courage and conviction in the face of a Governor who wants to sabotage Maine’s energy independence. We cannot risk the jobs and affordable energy that this bill will bring by allowing LePage to ignore the will of Mainers in favor of lining the pockets of big utilities.”

Clean, renewable energy like wind and solar are ramping up in New England.

Maine Senate Votes to Protect Solar Energy

“The Senate stood up for Mainers today by supporting our right to affordable, clean energy,” said CLF attorney Emily Green. “The PUC has tried to gut solar energy across our state by charging families and businesses for the energy they generate and use at home. Today, the Maine Senate stepped away from those bad policies, moving instead towards policy that creates jobs, lowers our energy bills, and makes local clean energy available to everyone.”

Good solar policy is important for the success of clean energy.

Pruitt on the Clean Water Attack

Once again, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and the Trump administration are taking aim at one of our most vital and effective environmental laws. On February 20, 2018, the Environmental Protection Agency issued a public notice asking for comments on the Clean Water Act’s coverage of pollution that enters our nation’s lakes, rivers, and oceans via groundwater.

Massachusetts Opens State Clean Energy Contract

“Moving forward with New England Clean Energy Connect is good news for both Massachusetts and New Hampshire,” said Brad Campbell, President of CLF. “The steps laid out by the Department of Energy Resources will establish, on the record, that the destructive, unpopular, and excessively expensive Northern Pass project is not feasible – and the concurrent negotiation with Avangrid will keep the process moving toward a better option.”

Governor LePage Abuses His Power in Attempt to Block Clean Energy in Maine

Governor LePage is renewing his assault on clean, renewable energy in Maine. Late last month, he issued an Executive Order that imposes a moratorium on new development of wind power in the state. The order establishes an advisory commission – to be handpicked by LePage – that will meet in secret to review the impacts… Continue reading Governor LePage Abuses His Power in Attempt to Block Clean Energy in Maine

Conservation Law Foundation sues LePage over wind power moratorium

The Conservation Law Foundation filed a lawsuit in Maine’s Superior Court Tuesday seeking to block Gov. Paul LePage’s recent executive order imposing a moratorium on new wind project permits and creating a special commission to make recommendations on wind power development. CLF Brings LePage to Court for Outrageous Wind Power Decision

“This Executive Order is a naked political attempt to impose the Governor’s own anti-renewable energy philosophy on the people and businesses of Maine,” said CLF Executive Vice President and Maine Director Sean Mahoney. “It is a clear violation of a fundamental premise of government established by the Maine Constitution – the separation of powers between our three branches. Not only is it illegal, but it is also bad for Maine’s economy where businesses need to have certainty in order to invest. As with other decisions of this Governor concerning energy efficiency and solar power development, Mainers across the state will suffer from this outrageous effort to hamstring our economic future, and CLF will do everything in our power stop it.”
