CLF Challenges Gas Pipeline Push

Clean, affordable power options are the path forward

October 1, 2026 (Boston, MA) – Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey on Thursday sent a letter to U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright urging the federal government to expedite review of gas pipeline expansion in the state. Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) released the following statement in response:

“This letter unwittingly adopts the false narrative that expansion of gas infrastructure will lower heating costs for New England families and businesses,” said Caitlin Peale Sloan, CLF vice president for climate and energy. “To the contrary, and as reinforced by the late-winter cold snap, the early summer heat dome, and most recently the Iran energy shocks, prices for gas and other polluting fuels are and will be outpacing inflation without end, while the only factor demonstrably containing prices has been deliveries of cleaner hydro and renewable offshore wind power to this market.”

CLF experts are available for further comment.
