New Hampshire’s Ten-Year Energy Strategy Misses the Mark
The plan ignores the role state policy plays in spiking electricity costs while calling for more polluting natural gas.

Slashing polluting emissions from medium- and heavy-duty vehicles is a critical part of our climate fight.
To fight climate change we need a strong and committed power grid operator that makes cleaning up our energy mix its first priority.
Despite the fossil fuel industry’s greenwashing, “renewable” natural gas still pollutes the climate and hurts our health.
“This bill is a thinly veiled attempt to shut out community input and roll back bedrock environmental protections like the Clean Water Act and the National Environmental Policy Act — effectively green-lighting scores of bad fossil fuel projects and stymying the just and clean energy transition President Biden says he supports,” said CLF President Bradley Campbell.
The Commission recently approved Eversource’s plan to make electric vehicle charging stations more widespread throughout the state.
“We will see Shell in court for putting the New Haven community in danger of life-threatening toxic spills,” said Brad Campbell, President of Conservation Law Foundation. “These fossil fuel companies have been deceiving regulators and the public about the risk of the climate crisis for years. It’s past time for them to be held accountable for putting communities and the environment in harm’s way.”
“This decision epitomizes short-term thinking that will only cause problems in the long run,” said Erica Fuller, Senior Attorney at CLF. “It’s simply backwards to choose areas for offshore wind development before doing a full environmental analysis, which would ultimately save time and money if done now. It is critical to advance offshore wind to respond to the climate crisis and clean up our electric grid, but it must be done in a science-based, inclusive and transparent way.”
“All landfills eventually leak. While we ultimately need to move away from burying our waste, we need to make sure landfills are safe for New Hampshire in the meantime,” said Tom Irwin, Vice President CLF New Hampshire.
