July 7, 2025 (Boston, MA) – The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has approved plans for an unwarranted, polluting waste facility in New Bedford. The plan by Parallel Products, now doing business as South Coast Renewables, will bring hundreds of polluting and disruptive diesel trucks filled with up to 1,500 tons of trash to a neighborhood already burdened with environmental hazards.

“The community spoke loud and clear in opposition to this unnecessary, polluting facility,” said CLF Director of Communities and Toxics Alex St. Pierre. “The state’s waste crisis has poisoned our environment and our health, and this facility will simply perpetuate the status quo. The state’s decision is unconscionable, and we will move forward in opposing the proposed waste transfer station at every step of the process.

In partnership with the community, CLF has been actively opposing the expanded facility. The company previously attempted to shut out non-English speaking residents from the process by failing to provide translation services or offer key materials in languages other than English.

CLF experts are available for further comment.
