EPA Announces Woeful Replacement for Waterway Protections

Trump administration previously announced rewrite of the WOTUS rule

January 23, 2020 (BOSTON, MA) – Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) released the following statement today after the EPA announced a new set of rules that drastically roll back protections for wetlands and streams.

“By erasing protections for the majority of our Nation’s wetlands and more than 18% of streams, this rule green-lights the dumping of pesticides and toxic chemicals into our waters,” said Heather Govern, Director of CLF’s Clean Air and Water program. “Large corporate interests bought and paid for this rollback, which will harm our communities and public health for decades to come.”

The Navigable Waters Protection Rule, announced today, replaces the Clean Water Rule that President Obama enacted in 2015 to protect smaller bodies of water.

CLF experts are available for further comment.
