Executive Council OK’s Loan for Upgrades to Portsmouth Sewage Treatment Plant

“This is a very significant and positive development for water quality in Portsmouth Harbor, the Piscataqua River and for the larger Great Bay Estuary,” said Tom Irwin, vice president and director of the Conservation Law Foundation in New Hampshire.

The CLF has intervened in the city’s permitting process with the Environmental Protection Agency over the years, pressing the case that Portsmouth needs to better treat the discharge into the Piscataqua River at the mouth of Portsmouth Harbor.
